Monumenten en hoogtepunten in Heraklion:
*25 augustus Street: Deze voetgangersstraat herbergt een verscheidenheid aan neoklassieke gebouwen. Deze straat verbindt de haven met Lion Square.
*Fort van Koules: Dit fort werd gebouwd om de haven te beschermen tegen indringers van buitenaf en werd gebouwd in de 15e eeuw. Koules betekent fort in het Turks, maar de Venetianen noemden het Rocca al Mare. De buitenkant van het fort heeft een plaquette van de gevleugelde leeuw van San Marco.
*Lion Square: Dit is een geweldige plek om Bougatsa, een typisch Grieks ontbijtgebak, uit te proberen.
*Morosini-fontein: De fontein bevindt zich op Lion Square en is een populaire ontmoetingsplaats. Het werd in de 17e eeuw in opdracht van Francesco Morosini gemaakt om de opening van een aquaduct te herdenken.
